Baba Guru Nanak University (BGNU) is a Public sector university located in District Nankana Sahib, in the Punjab region of Pakistan. It plans to facilitate between 10,000 to 15,000 students from all over the world at the university. The foundation stone of the university was laid on October 28, 2019 ahead of 550th of Guru Nanak Gurpurab by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. On July, 02, 2020 Government of Punjab has formally passed Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib Act 2020 (X of 2020).
Government of Punjab in the next phase has appointed Dr. Muhammad Afzal as first Vice chancellor of Baba Guru Nanak University. Since his Appointment University has already signed MOUs with Govt. Guru Nanak (post graduate) College and Govt. Guru Nanak Associate College for women for the technical assistance and to use vacant blocks and available spaces for the classes of the university as a make shift arrangement till the completion of its academic building which is under construction.
By holding its 1st meeting of Syndicate, University has almost fulfilled all the statutory requirements till date to commence its usual business. Furthermore, University is planning to announce admissions in Spring Semester 2022 and subsequently classes will commence according to Academic Calendar 2022.
Baba Guru Nanak University Nankana Sahib has also announced Centre of Excellence for Baba Guru Nanak & Sikh Cultural Heritage along with separate Chair focusing on Punjab Studies.
